    Default branded VS custom exhaust

    hey guys
was wondering if there would b any tangible performance benefits in getting a branded japanese exhaust system as opposed to going down to the local exhaust shop and getting one custom made?
does anyone hav any experience with one or the other?
    cheers

i have experience with both, and i wont look back on the system i imported from japan (a GP sports system)...much better fit (as in the bends to contort to the undercarriage shape), the welds were alot neater, and the imported system sounded alot better then the drone i had with the custom system.

A locally-constructed custom system can be just as good as anything you can buy off the shelf, but it can be a piece of crap as well. The key is to find a reputable exhaust workshop which is known to do good quality work. The good workshops usually charge a fair bit more than average, but still way less than the big-brand Jap stuff.

    custom works for me

although the exhaust system i'm getting for my single turbo setup is hideously expensive - but still cheaper than one of the US manufacturers like full-race, vwr, boost logic or sp.

Yep, its extremely unlikely that old mate down the roads exhaust would make less power than a jap brand one. I had never welded before and had to make a complicated exhaust for my R31 with heaps more corners than you would need on a supra and I still made 241rwkw through it with an auto.

ive had really good experiences with a number of custom made exhausts... im talking about well fitting exhausts that produce the power and even keep the noise down. $400 w/o a cat too. (mild steel)

however ultimately ill end up with a jap brand name exhaust because it will be cheaper for me to buy a nice stainless blitz nur spec second hand off Aaron, than it would to have something similar custom made.

The Blitz Nur Spec R catbacks build quality is a work of art you should check out the welds unreal..Sounds good looks good and on the dyno I lost 1 kw vs my old HKS Super Dragger but gained 50 nm torque at the same boost setting which was 17.1 psi and the car felt more responsive as well so bonus go for the after market Jap option they have done all the R&D thats why they cost more and the bottom line is most of these systems are quality...
